Scope of Works
Mainline Demolition were engaged by Georgiou Group to demolish the Karel Aveue Traffic Bridge. The scope included:
- Demolition of steel beam and concrete reinforced composite bridge over live ARC Rail.
- Design and verification of lift studies and temporary bridge stability
- Bridge segments of approximately 30+ tonnes.
- Removal of capping beams and wing walls.
- Removal of 2 abutment MSE walls.
Equipment Deployed
- 220t Crane
- 35t Excavator with shear, grapple and nibbler
- 12t Excavator with shear, grapple and nibbler
- Concrete cutting/coring equipment
Project Highlights
- All works, including lifts, were conducted during live train operating hours.
- All access and demolition from above deck only.
- Project completed with zero incidents.
- >99% of materials were recycled or repurposed.
- Completed on time.
Operational Challenges and Solutions
Works were completed during live rail operations. Lifts had to occur during train movement windows. Precise planning, methodology, lift studies, and cut patterns were essential to ensure all lifts occurred within the allocated train windows.
