Pemberton Timber Mill Demolition
Client: Parkside Group & Thuroona Services

Project Description:
The fire damaged Pemberton Timber Mill comprised of multiple interconnected and standalone buildings primarily of steel and asbestos-clad construction.
- Building A: Steel log loader structure with a small canopy.
- Building B: Timber-framed workshop within the main mill.
- Buildings C & D: Main milling and sawshop areas—steel-framed, asbestos-clad, with an elevated concrete milling floor, steel conveyors, and A-frame asbestos roof.
- Building E: Collapsed steel-framed, steel-clad lean-to with burnt-out timber floor.
- Building F: Separate steel-framed, asbestos-roofed building (intact, to be removed).
- Building G: Reeftop Chains Building—steel/asbestos structure feeding material to the stacker sheds and chipper.
- Building H: Tin-clad lean-to adjoining the chipper area.
- Building K: Open-sided steel structure with tin roof and timber purlins (intact, to be removed).
Scope of Works:
Engaged by Parkside Group and Thuroona Services, Mainline was tasked with the demolition of the fired damaged Pemberton Timber Mill. These works included:
- Request for exemption of specific works to Worksafe WA
- “Make Safe” site works after fire (December 2022)
- Demolition of all structures following the removal of fire damaged asbestos materials as far as practicable
- Removal and disposal of all demolition waste
Equipment deployed:
- 36-tonne excavator with attachments
- 22-tonne excavator with attachments
- Front end loader
- Push pull arm, steel shears, bucket & grapple
- Transport trucks / Dump truck
