Norseman Gold Mine

Mine Site Overview:
Norseman Gold Mine site had been shut down several years earlier leaving the structures unmaintained and deteriorating over the years. As the mine site was ‘switched off’ without notice, hazardous substances including cyanide, hydrochloric acid, and hydrocarbons all had to be managed and removed safely throughout the demolition process.
Scope of Works:
Mainline Demolition were engaged by CD Dodd and directly by Pantoro for later works to demolish the redundant Norseman Gold Mine site. The scope included:
- Demolition of mill area, Pachuca tanks and slurry tanks.
- Hazardous materials management.
Further works included:
- Demolition of Rom Pad house
- Asbestos removal
Structural Demolition
- Mill area had structures in excess of 25 metres high which were inaccessible for personnel. These structures were felled and processed using excavators with 3rd member shears.
- Pachuca tanks stood 20-25 metres high with walkways and piping at the highest points. Tanks were separated and felled.
- Slurry tanks ranged from 6-12 metres high with large gantry walkways connecting the tanks. These items were demolished and downsized using excavators with 3rd member shears.
Equipment Deployed:
- 36t Excavator with shear, grapple and bucket.
- 22t Excavator with grapple.
- Oxy cutting equipment.
Project Highlights:
- Successful felling of all structures.
- Over 1000t steel processed.
- The project completed with zero incidents.
- >99% recycled or repurposed.
- Project completed on time.
